You do not need previous aquaculture or farming experience to start this course.

Throughout the course, you will build a strong foundation in aquaculture, starting with what aquaculture is, how the industry developed and why it is becoming increasingly important for food security, employment, rural development and economic growth.

You will explore both freshwater and marine aquaculture, including farming opportunities involving species such as tilapia, African catfish, trout, abalone, oysters and mussels. You will also be introduced to different production systems, including ponds, tanks, Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), biofloc and aquaponics.

The course goes beyond fish farming itself and introduces learners to the wider aquaculture value chain, including hatcheries, fingerling production, fish feed, equipment supply, water-quality services, processing, transport, marketing, consulting and other potential business opportunities.
